Ace Tyler was a member of the church I attended while at Purdue. I wasn’t aware he was in the Glee Club until a while after I met him. Ace grew up in Remington, IN and was among those GI’s that returned to Purdue from World War II; he graduated in the class of 1950 and was part of the group that sang at Truman’s inauguration while sharing the stage with Dinah Shore, Danny Kaye and Bob Hope. His brother, 11 years his senior, pre-dated Al Stewart’s arrival at Purdue in 1933. Ace would likely be on the oldest recordings currently available in PVGCDB, and his barbershop quartet, the Homogenizers, performed Sweet Sweet Roses of Morn at the Centennial Celebration Concert in 1993. Ace passed away in 2019; his obituary provides a broader background of this great man.
