Video Details
In this 2003 interview, Mauri Williamson covers everything from a post-WW2 tour to Europe, the construction of Elliott Hall of Music, Al Stewart’s speeding ticket, and the Truman inauguration.
Mauri grew up in Economy, IN on a dairy farm and served in the Navy Medical Corp until 1946; like Ace Tyler he graduated in the class of 1950, a class where “most..remember the depression; they remember being poor.” After graduating from the Glee Club, he served as Executive Secretary of the Purdue Ag Alumni Association, president of the famed “Class of 50” alumni, and spearheaded the Pioneer Village at the Indiana State Fair. He and his colleagues founded NAADA (National Agricultural Alumni Development Association).
He started the Purdue Fish Fry that many glee clubbers have sung for through the years, and also started the Ag Ambassador Program at Purdue that many clubbers were involved in while in college.
Four Indiana Governors have honored him with the Sagamore of the Wabash Honor, from Governor Bowen to Pence.
Mauri passed away in 2017; his obituary provides more interesting details about his life.
