Commentary

There are three recordings of this tune (so far) with three different directors (Bill L, Bill A, and Brian B). Of the three, this one seems like the best performance… the pace, dynamics, enunciation, crispness of accompaniment, melodic integrity even at a breakneck speed, etc. seem superior (to me). Heck of a tune to sing with the club on stage. Enjoy!

Rhythm Of Life was called our freshman year at the Slater Hill performance.

We didn’t know it. Hadn’t heard it. Weren’t aware of it.

And it had choreography. The way you imagine how that might have gone is exactly how it went. =)

Paul, your comment made me laugh! Bill Luhman enjoyed doing the same thing to freshmen on their first specialty show, only he used Them There Eyes which required everyone to run into the audience, pick a lady, and sing to her on bended knee, none of which any of the freshmen had any clue about. Afterwards Bill just laughed and said to the audience, “Could you tell who the freshmen were?”

I was 100% on stage with Paul Larson when Brian 100% called “Rhythm of Life” on Slater Hill, and I knew 0% of the words. The song is incredible, but know that I’m laughing in my living room, by myself, remembering how lost I was from the get-go, only to figuratively hear “FINISH HIM” (Mortal Kombat style) as we got to the “You will make a new sensation” section.

Brutal and glorious, all in the same take. What a memory. What a song.

Jeff:

Freshman year Fall 1981.  Bill Luhman calls “Them There Eyes” - the entire ensemble runs off stage NOT as rehearsed….

Welcome to PVG!!

How long was I associated with PMO and never knew the Freshman initiation hazing perpetrated by Bill Luhman (and probably by APS before him)!!! what great stories…
Thanks for the memories.
