Hall of Famer Jim McKeand recounts the 1956 Christmas performance in Alaska:

My freshman year at Christmas, did the Bob Hope USO show in Alaska…that was 56 Christmas of 56. And to do that, we had to fly military aircraft which you know, the seats are not built for comfort. And we pick that airplane up some at some air force base in Indiana, and flew to Seattle. And then from Seattle up to Anchorage. I think it’s Seattle, we got winter clothing, and then and then went to Anchorage from there. And we actually would rehearse or performed during the middle of the day. And except for one day where we went touring and actually saw Mount McKinley without clouds over the top, which is kind of unusual. Never saw the sun. I mean, because it was dark. When we went into rehearsal. It was dark when we came out of rehearsal. So that was that was an experience.

“Hi Paul,

Thanks for finding that recording from the Bob Hope USO show.  It’s been 60+ years since I’ve seen that.

Thanks for all you do with the website.  Merry Christmas to you and your family and a blessed 2023.  Jim McKeand”
