The Christmas Show playlists at pmodatabase.com are back!

Also, It’s fitting to usher in the Christmas season with a newly-digitized recording from the late 60s/early 70’s.

The following 33rpm EP is from the Sonya Eddy collection.

She shared this memory (both audio and text!):

”..on the request that you sent me an e-mail about the Christmas record. I wanted to tell you that the Glee Club was always so busy traveling and doing shows that my dad started arranging for them to have a dance at Christmas time. So I’m thinking that that record was probably a dance favor. And so it could have been..in the late sixties, or the early seventies, but I’m guessing around 1970.”

The Season’s Greetings EP has the following tracks:

  • Carol of the Bells
  • We Need a Little Christmas
  • Gloria in excelsis Deo
  • What can I give you this Christmas
  • Island Christmas Song (my title)

If you are able to date or name soloists on this record, let me know. Enjoy, and Merry Christmas!

Commentary

According to Willie Standifer:

Yes I remember most of the playlist. We sang those songs between 1969 &1972;

Willie adds a bit more info when I asked if he could name some soloists.

Wow that’s a stretch. One song I will never forget is;

I’LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS. I believe we featured it as a special song in the 1970 Christmas show where we did a special performance at each show with our mothers standing behind individual front doors on stage as each glee clubber who’s mother was attending that particular show, got a chance to sing a couple of line of the song as they knocked on the prop doors as their mothers opened the door on stage.

That was unforgettable.  We had a variety of Christmas solos and specialty acts for each year’s Christmas show. I can’t recall all the songs but most of our featured soloist of group got an opportunity to showcase each year at the Christmas show.
