Bill Berner was a constant presence during my years in Club. From his obit, I learned he was part of a Navy group assigned to China during WWII, and later served as an educational service officer at Guam Naval Base. He joined the housing staff at Purdue University as manager of Men’s residence “X” (now Meredith Hall) in 1955. He was close with every Glee Club director from Stewart to Breed, and also aquatinted with R.B. Stewart and President Hovde, who he considered the greatest man he ever knew.

From Julie Ricciardi:

He was just an amazing supporter of PMO. In every way. He spoke up for us when we were needing advocates on campus; he gave; he attended.

He was just cool and kind and smart and funny. Totally accessible as an older person and knew pop culture and could connect with anyone. Back in the day we connected donors to the students and their awards.

Long after he passed I still had the “call Bill Berner” reoccurring calendar invite on my outlook. I just didn’t want to take it off. He was such a good mentor.
