Close by the Wabash
Chris Casebolt, class of 1991, digitized an old VHS tape he found:
Hi there – thanks so much for this amazing resource. I’ve come across a 1990 VHS tape and got it digitized. It’s a fairly good quality copy of “Close by the Wabash” - a Glee Club / PMO documentary from Brian Breed’s first year as director. - Chris PVGC 1991
Narrated by Brian Breed, The Close By The Wabash video traces PMO’s evolution from its origins in the 1893 founding of the Varsity Glee Club to its structure at the time, which included six ensembles and more than 300 student participants annually. Also covered is the 1912 creation of Hail Purdue, composed by alumnus Ed Wotawa with lyrics by student Jimmy Morrison, which emerged as the university’s official fight song and an enduring expression of institutional pride. The film also covers key moments, such as the establishment of the Purduettes during World War II, and explores how international performances — including tours in the United Kingdom — have extended PMO’s cultural influence beyond campus.
The Glee Club, Purduettes, and University Choir are featured along with a clip medley from the Christmas show.
Thanks, Chris!
